I have a real love hate relationship with this hill. It’s not the tallest in the country, by a long shot, but it has a way of telling you just how unfit you really are. The view at the top itself is magnificent and truly panoramic and is more than enough justification for doing the climb. Its name in Irish “Cnoc na gCloch” is a true reflection of the hill, where as the english “Sugarloaf” seems to be a touch romantic and almost ridiculous. The wall on the right is the county boundary between Tipperary and Waterford and is a remnant of famine labour. I spotted three sheep on a path on the way up. They were dwarfed by their surroundings, just like me.
